N2 - All IBA-1 hamiltonians whose eigenstates are combinations of states with numbers of d-bosons differing by an even number have O(5) symmetry. Consequences of this symmetry are presented for the O(6)-U(5) transition region for energy levels and electromagnetic transitions. We draw the distinction between evidence for O(6) character of nuclei and that for O(5) symmetry only.
