Abstract

We report an ESR study of Nd3+ in the cubic d band intermetallic compounds LuRh2 and LuIr2. The g value was found to be g = 2.62 +- 0.01 for both compounds which is close to that expected for a γ6 ground state crystalline field splitting of the Nd 4f3 (J = 9/2) configuration. The hyperfine constants appropriate to 1 4 3Nd and 1 4 5Nd were found to be smaller than the free ionic values. This decrease is attributed to conduction electrons effects.
