Abstract

Vibrational coherence was generated in S1 cis-stilbene at an optional delay time by the Raman process and the nuclear wavepacket motion was observed with 11-fs optical pulses. The frequency of the wavepacket motion exhibited gradual downshift with delaying timing of the creation, indicating highly anharmonic nature of the multi-dimensional S1 potential and a structural change proceeding in a picosecond time-scale.
