Abstract

Product rotational state distributions (measured by Polanyi et al. via IR chemiluminescence) for the reactions Cl + HI/DI, F + H2/D2 and H/D + Cl2 are governed by the fraction of the total energy available for product rotational excitation. The distribution of final rotational states can be characterized by a temperature parameter which is independent of the vibrational state and is isotopically invariant.
