Abstract

The probability for collision-induced dissociation near the energy threshold, is shown to increase exponentially with the initial vibrational energy of the diatomic molecule, in agreement with the experiment of Tully et al. At higher collision energies the effect is less pronounced and, at sufficiently high energy, is in the opposite direction.
