Abstract

Advantages inherent in studying photochemical reaction mechanisms in the solid-state are discussed. It has been proved that the heterophotodimerization of 9-cyanoanthracene and 9-methoxyanthracene proceeds via an exciplex. The organic crystal matrix permits extensive spectroscopic studies of the exciplex.
