Abstract

The reaction of Ce⁴⁺ with H₂O₂ in H₂SO₄ is studied as a function of pH, Ce³⁺, SO₄⁼ and the ionic strength. The reaction mechanism proposed assumes the existence of a Ce³⁺ ‐HO₂ complex. Direct evidence for the reaction, Ce³⁺ + HO₂ + H⁺ → Ce⁴⁺ + H₂O₂ is presented.
