Abstract
The first observation of the magnetic resonance of dysprosium in a metal (Ag: Dy) is reported. The properties of the resonance can be understood in terms of a 4f9 configuration, Russell-Saunders-Hundrule ground level, in the presence of a cubic crystalline field. A value for the localized-conduction electron exchange coupling J = 0.25 ± 0.1 eV in Ag:Dy is extracted from the temperature dependence of the resonance linewidth.
