Patterned ambivalence in orientations to medical professionals: General practitioners and dentists

Abstract

Orientations towards two types of medical professionals have been examined in Israel: general practitioners and dentists. In both cases ambivalence appears to be a characteristic of major segments of the population whose orientation includes simultaneous feelings of respect and dislike, attribution of high status and disparagement.
