Abstract

The behaviour of different peptidyl-tRNAPhe from Escherichia coli on methylated albumin silicic acid column was studied. It was found that the behaviour of glycine, alanine and serine containing peptidyl-tRNAPhe on this column was similar to that of Phe-tRNA. The elution pattern of N-blocked peptidyl-tRNA, on the other hand, differed from that of Phe-tRNA or unblocked peptidyl-tRNA. Phe-Gly-Phe-tRNA was strongly retarded on the methylated albumin silicic acid column as compared with Phe-tRNA. It is suggested that this retardation is due to the hydrophobic properties of the phenylalanine.
