Abstract

Photocatalysed regeneration of NAD(P)H is accomplished with CdS semiconductor powder and TiO2 colloids using formate or mercaptoethanol as electron donors. In these systems, methyl viologen acts as a primary charge relay for conduction band electrons. The reduced photoproduct, MV+., mediates the regeneration of NAD(P)H in the presence of enzymes. The NADH regeneration cycles have been coupled to the synthesis of alanine, malic acid and lactic acid.
