Abstract

Size distributions of particles produced by gas phase photochemical reaction between trace concentrations of SO2 and C2H2, in the presence of 1 atm of N2, were studied. The data show that particles are produced within a very narrow size distribution. The average particle dia. increases from less than 200 Å after 5 min of irradiation up to 1550 Å after 150 min of irradiation. The results observed in this study confirm a previously proposed mechanism on particle formation and growth in similar systems.
