Abstract
The photodissociation of HCl molecules adsorbed on the surface of large Ar n clusters was measured in the range of the average sizes from n=140 to 1000 at 193 nm. The molecules were prepared by the pickup method and the kinetic energy of the H atom fragments were determined in a time-of-flight mass spectrometer with low extraction fields. Two peaks were observed, one at zero kinetic energy and one at 2.0 eV which correspond to completely caged and unperturbed cage exit fragments. The measurement at different laser polarization angles indicates that the cage exit probability is zero for 0° polarization.
