Abstract

The cyclo-octasulfur (S8) molecule is presented as the basis for conductive Au/S8 macrocrystalline systems. Photolysis of 4,4′-dithiodipyridine in pyridine/water solution was used for the production of S8 microcrystals. The mechanism of the photochemical reaction was verified by X-ray crystallography. The polymorphism of S 8 can be used for shape-controlled crystallization.
