Abstract

The cyclo-octasulfur (S₈) molecule is presented as the basis for conductive Au/S₈ macrocrystalline systems. Photolysis of 4,4′-dithiodipyridine in pyridine/water solution was used for the production of S₈ microcrystals. The mechanism of the photochemical reaction was verified by X-ray crystallography. The polymorphism of S ₈ can be used for shape-controlled crystallization.
