Abstract

Photosensitized reductive cleavage of acetylene to methane is accomplished in an aqueous solution that includes [Ru(bpy)3]2+ (bpy = 2,2′-bipyridine) as sensitizer, triethanolamine as electron donor, and an [RuL5(H2O)]2+ complex that acts as electron acceptor and catalyst in the process.
