Abstract

A new process for KN03 production from KCI and HN03 is presented. This process is based on solvent extraction like the current industrial process, but instead of an alcoholic solvent, it uses an organic acid coupled with an amine as the active component of the solvent. A simplified process is achieved which provides for easy control of product KN03 crystal size and for a higher concentration of byproduct hydrochloric acid. Process flow sheet elaboration is described in detail.
