Abstract

The self-assembly and the surface seeding methods were combined to prepare a Au shell on polystyrene (PS) and hollow shells. The Au shell formation method was based on the enlargement of the gold coverage by the reaction with NH2OH and HAuCl4. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images were used to demonstrate the formation of Au clusters on the surface of the PS beads. The positively charged polyethyleneimine (PEI) polymer chains was shown to be streched out on the surface of the PS beads. The self-assembled structures induced by external magnetic field was also demonstrated.
