Abstract

A method for the preparation of uncontaminated quaternary ammonium hydroxides is described. It is particularly useful for short-chain compounds R ₄ N ⁺ OH ^- where R is a C1 to C4 unit and reflects the different solubility of long chain R ₄ N ⁺ X ^- and short chain R ₄ N ⁺ OH.
