Abstract

In their paper on 'The taxonomic validation oF the cyanobacterial genus Halothece. Marghen et al. (20(8) providcd formal descriptions of Halothece california gen. et sp. nov. in the protologue format ol a description under the rules of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokarotes (ICNP) and as a Latin diagnosis as required by the International Code of Botanical Nomenclature. The authors intended to list all data needed for valid publication of the names of the names of the new genus and species under the rules of both codes. This commentary exposes a number of problems connected to the authors proposal for the valid description of the name H.californica under the rules of the ICNP.
