Abstract
In this paper we demonstrate the suitability of antibodies as tailor-made chiral selectors. Polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies which stereoselectively bind to the functional grouping of α-amino acids were raised and used for the detection and chiral separation of amino acid enantiomers. The antibodies were used in various analytical applications, including immunoassay and sensor approaches, as well as chromatography. Due to their excellent stereoselectivity the antibodies allow the detection of enantiomer ratios at a level that exceeds currently available methods.
