Abstract

Spin relaxation rates of protons in hydrides of LaNi//5// minus //xCu//x (1 less than equivalent to x less than equivalent to 5) were measured in the temperature range 170 K less than equivalent to T less than equivalent to 400 K. The temperature dependence of T//2 yields a diffusional activation energy E//a which increases nearly monotonically from LaNi//4CuH//4//. //7 to LaCu//5H//1//. //5. The spin-lattice relaxation time T//1 does not exhibit a clear minimum in T//1 versus 1/T plots, as found previously for LaNi//5H//6. A possible correlation between the behavior of E//a and the hydrogen thermodynamic properties of these hydrides is pointed out.
