Abstract

The reaction of hydroxyl radicals with Br- has been investigated in the pH regions 9-11.5. The maximum absorption of Br2- was followed spectrophotometrically at 365 nm as a function of [Br-] and [OH-]. The intermediate species, BrOH-, is suggested as a precursor in the oxidation mechanism of Br-.
