Abstract
The quantum efficiency of fluorescence from the 5D0 level of Eu3+ was obtained by two methods: by lifetime measurements and by comparison with a liquid standard. The quantum efficiency obtained by both methods was 0.95 ± 0.02. The probabilities of populating the 5D0 level via excitation to the 5D1, 5D2, 5D3, and 5L6 levels have been calculated. The probability for the 5D1 → 5D0 transition of the excited Eu3+ in phosphate glasses has been calculated. The interaction of the electronic levels with the glass host is discussed.
