Abstract
Absorption, excitation, and emission spectra of Eu(III) in silicate glasses have been measured. The oscillator strengths for transitions from the populated **7F multiplet have been calculated and compared with those in other matrices. Quantum efficiencies were determined by comparative and lifetime measurements. Percentage quantum efficiencies for the **5D//1 yields **5D//0 transitions and radiative and nonradiative rate constants were calculated.
