Abstract

We posit that traffic management in future high-capacity networks employing ultra-wideband and spatially-diverse links will require a key new switching device, the flexible WaveBand-Selective Switch, placed hierarchically with existing optical switching technologies. The challenges for its realization in integrated platform are considered.
