Abstract
The use of a rectangular core fiber is investigated for mode division multiplexing. Thefiber supports well-separated mode groups (polarization degenerate only), with favorable modeprofiles for device coupling and component integration. A fiber prototype is experimentallycharacterized for its modal delays and field profiles by time-gated interferogram analysis.
