Abstract

The release profiles of l-phenylalanine and metronidazole from individual microspheres conform to the Higuchi model for release by leaching of drugs from granular spherical pellets. The release profiles from a population of microspheres also conformed to the Higuchi model. The agreement between the Higuchi parameters for the cumulative release profile and that of a simple mathematical profile obtained by addition of the individual profiles suggests that the release mechanism of a population is identical to the mechanism of release from individuals that comprise the population.
