Abstract
Culture-Sensitive Strategic Therapy represents an integration of the narrative paradigm and the notion of idioms of distress. The influence of religious symbols on Ultra-Orthodox Jewish clients' narrative constructions of distress is reviewed. Therapy aims to integrate the patients' symbolic idioms into more personal and concrete forms and utilizes techniques specific to the client's culture and their role in it. Clients assume active roles in finding new solutions. Two case studies with Ultra-Orthodox Jewish men in Israel who experience distress connected to their past history, personal vulnerabilities, and external stresses, illustrate this approach.
