Abstract

Franz Rosenzweig (1886-1929) was a German-Jewish philosopher, educator, and translator, whose The Star of Redemption (1921) ranks as one of the most important works of Jewish philosophy written in the modern period. The Star is a system of philosophy, in conversation with the systems of German Idealism, which seeks to provide a comprehensive account of “All” that is. But it is a system whose central concepts - creation, revelation, and redemption - are borrowed explicitly from theology; and in which Judaism and Christianity are claimed to offer visions, each through the course of its liturgical calendar, of the redemptive unity of “All” that is.
