Abstract

Extending the angle-dependent line-of-centers model originally developed to treat the orientation dependence of atom-molecule reaction cross sections, it is possible to predict the JKM dependence of the reactivity of rotationally state-selected, oriented symmetric top molecules in collision with spherically symmetric co-reagents. In a certain well-defined limit the cross section depends only upon the characteristic quantum number combination KM/(J2+J), the average orientation of the symmetric top.
