Abstract
Sponge cities and superblocks are promising and complementary concepts for the urban transformation of neighbourhoods and cities in order to tackle challenges of mobility, climate change and water management. A combined implementation of the sponge city and superblocks opens up interesting opportunities to promote urban greenery. Both concepts are currently being implemented and tested in pilot projects in several cities in Switzerland. This article briefly introduces the two concepts, discusses examples from Switzerland and addresses open questions relating to their practical implementation.
