Abstract

We fabricated colloidal photonic crystals for visible and near-infra-red range using different colloidal particles (polystyrene (PS) beads, silica beads and core/shell PS/PPV beads) with size ranging from 240 to 710 nm. SEM images indicate ordered structures, with few defects. All the ordered structures exhibit a clear "stop band" as well as some evidence for higher order bands in light transmission experiments. The position of the stop-band scales nicely with particles size. We studied also the photoluminescence (PL) of poly(phenylenevinylene) (PPV) included into the photonic crystals.
