Abstract

The development of an analytical formula to describe the time course of post-synaptic channel opening under constant low concentrations of neurotransmitter is discussed. Based upon this formula, simplified analytical expressions for the dependence of the rising phase and the steady-state level of open channels on transmitter concentration were produced. These expressions provide the means to evaluate the rate constants which govern the rise time of the synaptic current.
