Smell-recognition of newborns by women who are not mothers

Abstract

Women without children held an unrelated infant in their arms for 1 hr and then were tested for infant-smell-recognition. Most were successful. This indicates that the ability to identify infants by thier odor is a more general human skill than previously realized.
