Abstract
The exact solution of a simple example of nonterminating irreversible polymerization gives a Poisson distribution of polymer lengths. Analytic results are given for the accuracy of first and second order continuous approximations to the problem. The latter approximation, for example, is shown to give excellent results for the mean and standard deviation, but poor results for the third moment.
