Abstract
Phosphate glasses with Li, Be, Na, Zn, Mg modifiers and Be + Li and Ca + Li silicate glasses were prepared. The absorption, excitation and emission spectra and luminescent lifetimes of Cr(III) in these glasses were measured. The quantum efficiences of Cr fluorescence were obtained by the comparison method. Lifetime measurements revealed that an additional mechanism is responsible for the decay. Mechanisms are discussed for the nonradiative losses in the glasses.
