Spectroscopic and luminescent characteristics of PrAl3(BO3)4 crystals

Abstract

The absorption and luminescence spectra of stoichiometric Pr3+ ions and energy transfer in the PrAl3(BO3)4 single crystal are investigated using optical spectroscopy and time-resolved techniques. It was shown that between Pr3+ ions a strong resonance interaction occurs, which causes the broadening of spectral lines and quenching of luminescence. The quenching is caused by the energy migration accompanied by the localization of electronic excitations at traps.
