Abstract

Absorption, excitation and emission spectra were measured for Cr(III) incorporated in vitreous ceramics based on spinel and gahnite structures. The ligand field of Cr(III) is high, comparable to ruby, as opposed to the low field in glasses. In addition to single sites, pairs arising from magnetic interaction of Cr(III) were obtained. Quantum efficiencies of fluorescence of Cr(III) in the crystallized species are very high at room temperature.
