Abstract

Solid-state lasers tunable in the visible were prepared by introducing perylene based dyes into composite glasses. Slope efficiency and threshold energy of a laser emitting between 510-620 nm were 7.4% and 60 μJ. Several other dyes for tunable lasers in the visible are described and their optical properties reported. The photostability of lasers based on perylene dyes in glass is much higher than in the previously studied xanthene dyes.
