Abstract

The Percus-Yevick equation has been adapted for a two-dimensional system of particles interacting via noncentral forces. A pair potential operating between two particles has been constructed with the intention of reproducing some properties of a sample of such particles which will be similar to the ones encountered in a real liquid water. Particularly, the open mode of packing of water molecules in the condensed state may be simulated by these particles. A numerical solution of the integral equation for the pair correlation function reveals a wealth of information on the local mode of packing of these particles, consistent with the geometries expected on qualitative grounds.
