N2 - ESR of Au:Yb thin films evaporated on quartz and NaCl substrates are reported. The anisotropy of the Yb resonance, due to the planar strain, enable us to estimate lower limits for the tetragonal and trigonal second order orbit-lattice coupling parameters. The hydrostatic component of the deformation, causes no effects on the g-value, indicating that the Kondo temperature is very low.
