Abstract
Solid solutions of the general formula NbxO2 (x ≥ 0.5) were prepared. Single crystals were grown by chemical. transport using NbCl5/Cl2 as transporting agents. The powdered material has the rutile tetragonal structure for 0.5 {slanted equal to or less-than} x < 0.92 and the NbO2 superstructure for x ≥ 0.92. The change of phase is confirmed by thermal data. The magnetic susceptibility showns Curie-Weiss behavior above 77 K.
