Abstract

The retro-Diels-Alder fragmentation of the adducts (I) of p-benzoquinone with bi-1-cyclohexen-1-yl and with related dienes under electron impact is accompanied by double hydrogen migration. Examination of the mass spectra of deuterium-labeled adducts revealed that the two migrating atoms are attached at positions 8 and 9. A possible mechanism is suggested.
