Abstract

To the Editor: A certain sense of antipodean indignance prompts me to draw your attention to an error in the April 22 issue of the Journal, in which the authors of the article on sudden-infant-death syndrome (SIDS) state that the rate of infant deaths among Maori infants in Tasmania is nearly twice that among infants of European descent.1 There are no Maoris in Tasmania, and the reference cited does not refer to Maori infants. The Maoris are the original inhabitants of New Zealand, many hundreds of miles away by sea. The statement made does hold true for surveys made.
