Abstract

Silica-polymethylmethacrylate composite glass was prepared using sol-gel procedure. Glass film coatings doped by perylimide dyes LFR300 and LFO240 were deposited on ordinary glass plates. Laser emission was observed under pumping with second harmonic of Nd: YAG laser at a threshold of ~ 0.1 mJ/pulse. The significant amplification of emitted light is the result of multiple reflection in the doped film and the resonant coupling of the light escaped into the support of higher refractive index to leaky mode propagating inside the active film. The system can be tuned. No laser damage was observed up to 60 MW / cm2 per pulse peak pumping power.
