Abstract
57Fe Mössbauer studies, magnetic susceptibility and powder X-ray diffraction measurements were used to study the magnetic properties and superconductivity of La1+xBa2-xCu3Oz in both oxygen-rich (z=7) and oxygen-deficient (z=6 ) samples. For z=7, Tc is reduced for increasing La substitution by Ba, and Mössbauer studies at different temperatures show that antiferromagnetism in the Cu(2) site is found at concentrations where superconductivity disappears. For z=6 antiferromagnetism persists for all x values. The phase diagram obtained and the competition between superconductivity and magnetic order, are discussed in terms of the known phase diagram of Y1-xPrxBa2(Cu1-yFey)3Oz.
