Symmetry Analysis of Proton-Neutron Quadrupole Shapes in Nuclei

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingConference contributionpeer-review

Abstract

We present a survey of the rich variety of possible quadrupole shapes in proton-neutron systems. Symmetry considerations are used to simplify the expression for the general energy surface by introducing new shape parameters. The different proton-neutron configurations are classified into distinct classes. Particular atten-tion is paid to new features that occur (eg non-aligned shapes).
