Abstract

N-Benzyl-dl-aspartic acid is converted by acetic anhydride into N-acetyl-N-benzylaspartic anhydride which yields β-amides when acted upon by aqueous ammonia or benzylamine. Various N2-acetyl-N2-benzyl derivatives of asparagine and aspartimide have been prepared.
