Abstract

The zooflagellate Leishmania enriettii synthesizes α-linolenic acid as determined by experiments with stearic acid uniformly labeled with C ¹⁴. This is the first demonstration of the synthesis of α-linolenic acid by a non-photosynthetic organism.
