Abstract

The undecapeptide corresponding to the amino acid sequence 70–80 of cytochrome c was synthesized. The synthetic peptide inhibited the cytochrome oxidase mediated oxidation of ferrocytochrome c. The inhibition was not due to the overall positive electrostatic charge of the peptide, since the Nα,∈-acylated peptide was an even better inhibitor. No inhibition was observed when smaller peptides of the 70–80 sequence were tested.
